We spray it on, and the moss dies off
Moss and lichen are a common sight on Canterbury roofs, most of all on shady sides and under trees. They hold water against the roof, and the dead growth washes down into the gutters. Our treatment is sprayed on to kill them where they grow.
We let the weather finish the job because the roots grow into the roof surface. They have to be killed off, or the moss grows back.
Our self powered spraying equipment runs over 100 metres of hose. That lets us reach roofs a long way from where we park, on large sections and commercial buildings.
Elavo is family owned and has been treating moss on homes and businesses across Christchurch and North Canterbury since 2003.

What we treat
-
Tile roofs - Concrete tiles where moss grows along the joins
-
Metal roofs - Long run iron and colour steel
-
Lichen - The flat grey and orange growth that spreads across tiles and iron
-
Commercial roofs - Large buildings, reached with over 100 metres of hose
-
Paths and patios - We can water blast first, then spray the moss. If you want, we come back once it has died off and blast again
Dead moss ends up in your gutters. See vacuum gutter cleaning. For moss on a driveway or patio, see water blasting.

Roof moss questions
How do you get rid of moss on a roof?
Treat it, then let the weather finish the job. A moss and lichen treatment sprayed on the roof kills the growth, and it breaks down and washes off over the following months. The roots grow into the surface, so the treatment has to kill them off or the moss comes back.
How long does roof moss treatment take to work?
The moss browns off first, then takes longer to wash away, depending on the rain and how thick it was.
Is moss bad for my roof?
It can be. Moss holds moisture against the roof, and the debris it sheds blocks gutters and downpipes.
How much does roof moss treatment cost?
On roofs we spray and let the weather wash it off. On paths and patios we can water blast first, then spray, and come back once the moss has died off to blast again if you want.
Do you water blast the moss off?
On roofs we spray and let the weather wash it off. On paths and patios we can water blast first, then spray, and come back once the moss has died off to blast again if you want.
